Healthy Babies, Healthy Business:
Cutting Costs and Reducing Premature Birth Rates

NCF co-hosted an event with the March of Dimes to raise awareness of premature birth and pediatric health. This event served to educate how preterm birth is a significant public health issue and how it impacts businesses and employer health plans.

Discussions included the costs of maternal-infant health, both for normal outcomes and negative outcomes, and the 14 standards that support maternal and infant health.  Learn more about the March of Dimes mission, resources, and relationship opportunities.

Speakers Included:

  • Dr. Deborah Campbell, American Academy of Pediatrics
  • RADM Steven K. Galson, M.D., M.P.H., Acting United States Surgeon General
  • Dr. Jennifer Howse, President, March of Dimes
  • Dr. Jeffrey L. Kang, Chief Medical Officer, CIGNA
  • Dr. Hal Lawrence, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
  • According to a report by the March of Dimes, one in 8 babies are born preterm, and health care expenditures for many of these infants far exceed those for full term infants, expenditures for health care services during the first year of life averaged $41,610 compared with $2,830 for a baby born healthy and full term.
