CEO Leadership Series featuring Scott Davis, Chairman and CEO, UPS
February 26, 2009
U.S. Chamber of Commerce | Washington, D.C.
On February 29, 2009, the National Chamber Foundation hosted a CEO Leadership series luncheon featuring Scott Davis, UPS chairman and CEO. As one of the leaders in the global business marketplace, Davis discussed the compelling facts that drive the company’s position on free trade and the importance of a global business economy.
Given last year’s campaign rhetoric and the election results, a robust trade agenda has already been declared dead-on-arrival. But the reports of its death have been greatly exaggerated. At a time when protectionist impulses are rising at home and abroad, the business community must lead the fight against isolationism. With declines in investment and consumption, we cannot walk away from trade, which has kept our economy afloat this past year. Thus, we must push for more access to foreign markets and encourage newly emerging players to remove trade barriers and limit currency manipulation.
