July 15, 2009
U.S. Chamber of Commerce | Washington, D.C.
On July 15, 2009, NCF hosted Steve Odland, chairman and CEO of Office Depot, Inc. Odland discussed the mounting needs of the U.S. transportation system and the appropriate federal role in providing for these needs. Like most of the business community, Office Depot is supported by a complex system of roads and rails, ports and rivers, transit systems and airports that move its employees, customers, and products every day.
Unfortunately, the U.S. transportation system is aging and inadequate to support a 21st century economy and way of life. Odland shared his perspective on these issues based on his experiences with the supply chain and Office Depot’s retail outlet needs and his work with the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission – a Congressionally-authorized Commission charged with advising Congress on the current conditions and needs of the national surface transportation system.
Odland is a director of General Mills, member of the Business Roundtable, commissioner on the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission, member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation, and member of the Florida Council of 100.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
