Getting America Back to Work
The number of Americans filing first-time claims for unemployment benefits matched the highest level in 26 years as layoffs forced more workers to seek government assistance in a deepening recession. Employers who cut 2.6 million U.S. jobs last year may continue to shed workers, weighing on spending and prolonging the slump. Meanwhile, President Obama is pushing for quick passage of a stimulus plan that aims to revive the economy and save or create as many as 4 million jobs, yet many economists and analysts argue that the current proposal won’t be able to deliver the jobs promised.
The National Chamber Foundation hosted a series of small events to examine our nation’s current job crisis, assess the new administrations’ efforts to stem the losses, and evaluate what steps need to be taken to get America back to work.
The following events took place:
Energizing the Job Market: Ironing Out Green-Collar Jobs - February 17th
Constructing the Employment Solution: Who Will Rebuild America? - February 24th
A Pro-Tech Agenda: Rebooting the Digital Economy - March 4th
Piecing Together the American Dream: How to Solve the Employment Puzzle - March 10
NCF will continue to explore and examine the job crisis as it relates to the above topics. Please visit the above websites for more information.
